Manchester United could yet swap Cristiano Ronaldo for a younger goalscoring star, with Chelsea close to a midfield signing – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.
RONALDO, OSIMHEN SWAP AT MAN UTD
Manchester United could swap Cristiano Ronaldo for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in a complex but fruitful operation in the next week, a report has claimed.
With less than seven days to go in the summer transfer window, one of the big focuses at Old Trafford is what will happen up front. Ajax star Antony is the top target amid claims of an £84million valuation.
Elsewhere, PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo is also on United’s radar. As for outgoings, Ronaldo is the big name on that front. The 37-year-old reportedly wants out but has so far struggled to find a suitor.
Although, Ronaldo could yet get his wish as Napoli have emerged as a potential next club. According to Gianluca di Marzio, Ronaldo‘s agent, Jorge Mendes, initially spoke with the Serie A club at the start of August.
Contacts have since resumed – but Tuttosport claims that they have now gone to the next level. Indeed, Mendes has floated the idea of prolific Nigerian striker Osimhen going the other way.
CHIEF LEARNS OF OPPORTUNITY
Man Utd technical director Darren Fletcher has got wind of the developments and told manager Erik Ten Hag he could get an instant and long-term replacement for Ronaldo.
But 23-year-old Osimhen, who has scored 30 goals in 64 games for Napoli, will not come cheap. The Serie A club are demanding £100million, which could be paid in instalments.
Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, is also involved. He has explained the operation to his client and believes it ‘should lead’ the striker to sign for United.
But Osimhen himself has reservations, given he would be swapping the Champions League for the Europa League at Old Trafford.
As for Ronaldo, Tuttosport adds that he would move on a season-long loan to Napoli – in which United would pay 75 per cent of his wages – before deciding his future once again. Napoli would reportedly refuse the idea of United including Ronaldo in an Osimhen deal to lower the 23-year-old’s fee.
