Manchester United are advancing towards a dream swap deal with Barcelona for Erik ten Hag, while a Chelsea star is eyeing a Serie A move – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.
MAN UTD IN SERGINO DEST SWAP
Manchester United are reportedly ramping up talks with Barcelona over a swap deal involving Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Sergino Dest.
A new right-back has proved among the top priorities for new United boss Erik ten Hag, but a deal has had to wait. The Old Trafford club have instead focused on Ajax winger Antony, who is now close to joining.
A right full-back and goalkeeper are the Dutch manager’s new priorities with the transfer window closing on Thursday.
Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard and Inter’s Denzel Dumfries have come and gone as Man Utd right-back targets.
According to Sport, though, a deal with Barca for Dest could happen before the deadline – because the La Liga side want a new player in that area too.
Barcelona boss Xavi – who reportedly does not want Dest – tried extensively this summer to sign Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta. The Spaniard, though, chose to renew his Stamford Bridge contract.
Nevertheless, with Man Utd looking to shift Wan-Bissaka for a new right-back, he and Dest could swap places. The Spanish outlet claims the deal could be a ‘pure exchange’ without anything added in.
Barca and United are subsequently ‘intensifying’ contacts over an arrangement. The development comes after talk of a loan deal for Dest amid Barca’s €20million (£17million) price tag.
TEN HAG WANTS FAMILIAR FACE
Dest starred for Ten Hag while the pair were at Ajax together, so the Dutchman wants a reunion with the American.
Ten Hag has already signed a new left-back in Tyrell Malacia and wants a new signing on the opposite flank to challenge Diogo Dalot.
Wan-Bissaka moved to Old Trafford in 2019 from Crystal Palace and impressed under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure. However, he has played just five minutes of Premier League football under Ten Hag.
Xavi, meanwhile, has played Sergi Roberto, new signing Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo at right-back. Barca have also played a back three this term. Dest, though, has only featured for 10 minutes this term.
