Manchester United are one of six Premier League clubs becoming more confident over signing a Serie A centre-back, while Tottenham are preparing a raid for a wing-back on the opposite side to what might be expected – all in Wednesday’s Euro transfer gossip.

SKRINIAR STILL ON MAN UTD, LIVERPOOL RADARS

Inter Milan have missed their internal deadline to renew the contract of Milan Skriniar, which has put him back on the radar of Manchester United and more.

That’s according to a report from 90min, which suggests that the centre-back could now get a chance to come to the Premier League.

The source has already revealed that every member of the so-called big six in England – Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Arsenal – have been keeping informed about developments on the Skriniar front.

Now, they are all said to be staying in touch with his representatives after Skriniar failed to sign an extension by the date Inter wanted him to.

The Serie A side publicly said they were hoping to tie him down by November 13. However, that date has passed and Skriniar’s terms are still due to expire at the end of the season.

By January, he could sign a pre-contract agreement with a suitor outside Italy. Alternatively, Inter might have to try and sell him for a cut-price fee while they still can.

Indeed, the Nerazzurri believe interested parties are preparing bids for the Slovakia international.

His Premier League admirers all seem to prefer the idea of taking him on a free transfer next summer, rather than paying in the winter.

Since Slovakia are not at the World Cup, Inter are still hoping to use the current break to convince Skriniar to stay. He has played for the club since 2017, when they signed him from Sampdoria.

A title winner with the club in 2021, he has amassed 236 appearances in Inter colours. But the time could soon come for a change.

Skriniar has several English suitors

English champions Manchester City are well stocked at centre-back. They signed Manuel Akanji in the summer to add to Aymeric Laporte, Ruben Dias, John Stones and Nathan Ake.

Rivals Man Utd brought in Lisandro Martinez to partner Raphael Varane, having lost some faith in captain Harry Maguire.

For their part, Liverpool might need to find long-term successors to Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip, who are both now 31.

And down in London, Tottenham’s defence in particular has come under scrutiny, but league leaders Arsenal are also looking to reinforce and Chelsea are still evolving their backline.

It remains to be seen who might make the strongest effort for Skriniar, who also has suitors in other territories, the report reminds.
