Manchester United are closer than ever to the signing of Frenkie de Jong after stunning developments in Barcelona, Newcastle are tracking an explosive Colombia striker, while Tuesday’s Euro Paper Talk claims Chelsea are eyeing a huge double £84m raid on Serie A.

FRENKIE DE JONG DEAL IMMINENT FOR MAN UTD

Manchester United are reportedly on the brink of finalising an agreement to sign Frenkie de Jong.

The Barcelona midfielder has been their No 1 target all summer – but getting a deal over the line has been fraught with difficulties. After eventually agreeing a £55.9m (€65m) fee with Barca, they then hit issues convincing the player.

And those hopes took a battering over the weekend when a report listed 10 reasons why he was dead against the transfer.

However, United have continued to plug away and  – armed with the knowledge that Barca want to sell – are now seemingly closer than ever.

And Barcelona’s wish to sell was reportedly made clear to the player during a meeting with the player on Monday.

As per AS, the bond between Xavi and De Jong was never strong in the first place. Now, having confirmed to him that they wish to sell him,. that relationship is now at breaking point.

They claim De Jong feels he never really had the trust of Xavi anyway and, amid their efforts to sell him, feels that bridges have now been burned.

Furthermore, there is a growing belief in Spain that the player has now come to accept his Barcelona days are over.

As such, Manchester United have reportedly closed an agreement for the signing. And the move to take De to United is now described as closer than ever.

Ten Hag wants Antony, Lisandro Martinez next after Frenkie de Jong

News of the imminent capture will come as a major relief for Erik ten Hag.

But rather than this being a time for celebration, the Dutch boss is now urging United to secure his next two targets.

And much like De Jong, capturing both Lisandro Martinez and Antony from former club Ajax are proving cumbersome.

Martinez remains the subject of strong United interest. They have seen two offers so far fail – the most recent of which is for £42m (€50m).

And now there are claims that Ajax have raised their asking price to some £50.7m (€60m).

The Amsterdam outfit also rate Brazilian forward Antony highly. United’s only approach so far has seen Ajax refuse their £50.7m (€60m) offer.

Now, as per The Times, Ten Hag is imploring United to raise their bids for the pair. He sees the trio as key components of a Man Utd rebuild next season.

As such, Ten Hag hopes to finish the summer with five signings. Tyrell Malacia is already in the bag and Christian Eriksen also close. And if he can add these three, he will feel confident of steering United towards a top-four finish at least.
