European-Belarusian Amialiusik wins road race gold in Baku

BAKU, June 20 (Reuters) - Belarusian Alena Amialiusik won a three-way sprint finish to secure European Games road race gold around the streets of Baku on Saturday. Amialiusik, 26, prevailed in searing temperatures to come home in front of Poland's Katarzyna Niewiadoma and Dutchwoman Anna van der Breggen. The trio were all credited with the same time of three hours, 20 minutes and 36 seconds over the nine laps that made up the 120.7 km course. Dutchwoman Ellen van Dijk, who won time trial gold on Thursday, finished 18 seconds behind the medallists in fourth. Amialiusik was third in the team time trial at last year's world championships having finished 15th in the road race at the 2012 London Olympics. (Reporting by Justin Palmer; editing by Toby Davis)
