Eurythmics co-founder Dave Stewart’s Covent Garden penthouse is for sale with roof terrace the size of a tennis court
Sweet dreams are made of this Covent Garden penthouse once owned by Eurythmics legend Dave Stewart that has just gone on the market with Knight Frank for £4.5 million.
The five-bedroom flat has a roof terrace the size of a tennis court and played a central role in the London music and art scene of the 1990s hosting stars such as David Bowie, Sinead O’Connor and George Harrison.
Stewart, who co-founded the 1980s electronic duo with Annie Lennox, created the current layout of the flat which takes up the top two floors of a 30-year-old building in Seven Dials.
The lower floor includes an open-plan living area where Stewart wrote lyrics with Jon Bon Jovi and Bono and five bedrooms, one of which was an art studio containing works by Damien Hirst.
Stewart designed the top floor as a home recording studio but it is currently used as an extra reception area leading to the vast roof terrace.
Current owner Craig Arnott, 53, has modernised the interiors of the flat but has taken special care to keep some of the features that Stewart so enjoyed such as the integrated sound system in every room, and the quirky ‘seven dials’ door that was mysteriously designed by one of the musician’s many artist friends.
“We love that whole generation of music, it was a real trigger for us buying the property,” says Arnott, who also raves about the cobbled, newly-pedestrianised streets of Seven Dials which gives the pocket of prime central London a “village feel”.
The penthouse, marketed through Knight Frank, has already had a swathe of prospective buyers requesting to view the property — indicating that, with the post-Lockdown rebirth of the West End underway, everybody really is looking for something.
