Things are not off to a good start for the Buffalo Sabres. A day after losing Jack Eichel, and already without Kyle Okposo and Ryan O’Reilly, Evander Kane left Thursday night’s opener after a hard crash into the end boards.

As Kane chased for a puck with Montreal Canadiens defensemen Alexei Emelein in the second period, he lost an edge and slammed into the boards on his side.

Kane would leave the game and not return as the Sabres fell to the Habs 4-1. The team would later announce that the forward is undergoing further evaluation at a local hospital.

That same left shoulder is one that Kane had surgery on back in Feb. 2015 that caused him to miss the remainder of that 2014-15 season.

Following the first period, newly re-signed GM Tim Murray told reporters that he’s working off a 6-8-week timeline that the team will be without Eichel after his awkward fall during practice on Wednesday. As if the Sabres needed anymore bad news.
