Everton 2-2 Tottenham: Harry Kane injury caps tough night for Jose Mourinho’s Spurs at Goodison Park

Tottenham and Everton shared a Premier League point apiece as Gylfi Sigurdsson and Harry Kane both scored two goals at Goodison Park on Friday night, with an injury to Kane a key concern for Spurs.

The result did little for either sides’ respective Champions League qualification hopes, putting Jose Mourinho under more pressure ahead of next weekend’s must-win Carabao Cup Final against Manchester City - but Kane now looks to be a serious injury doubt for that game.

After a drab opening 25 minutes, Spurs opened the scoring with their first shot on goal in the 27th minute. Michael Keane missed Tanguy Ndombele’s cross, allowing Kane to control and fire into the bottom corner.

However, Tottenham’s lead lasted barely four minutes as Everton equalised from the spot. Sergio Reguilon clattered into James Rodriguez and Sigurdsson sent HugoLloris the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Everton gained momentum from their equaliser and could have led but Lloris denied Rodriguez after a fine move and then saved Richarlison’s header from acorner as it was 1-1 at half-time.

Heung-min Son tested Pickford Toby Alderweireld hit the post after the break as Spurs went in search of a winner, but Everton made the breakthrough as substitute Seamus Coleman made an immediate impact with a cross which Sigurdsson expertly steered home on the half-volley.

Mourinho responded with two attacking changes and was rewarded with a goal, but again it was a defensive horror show from Everton. Keane attempted to clear a simple cross, but headed against Godfrey and the ball again fell to Kane, who lashes home a brilliant volley to equalise.

Neither side could find a winner, but Kane suffered an ankle injury in the closing stages which will be a key concern for Mourinho ahead of the Carabao Cup Final.
