Everton ‘make move’ for Premier League star as Gordon undergoes medical at Newcastle
Everton have made a move for Southampton forward Che Adams with Anthony Gordon set to sign for Newcastle United, according to reports.
The Toffees are looking to improve their forward line in the January transfer window with the Merseysiders only scoring 15 goals in 20 Premier League matches this campaign.
And they have been weakened further with news that Gordon is set to join Newcastle in a deal reportedly worth around £40m plus add-ons.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claimed earlier on Saturday that Gordon is having his medical today ahead of an official statement.
Romano wrote on Twitter: “Anthony Gordon, undergoing medical tests as new Newcastle player after deal agreed with Everton on £40m fee plus add ons. Gordon will sign his contract right after the medical tests — official statement to follow.”
Everton are also close to announcing the appointment of Sean Dyche as their new manager after sacking Frank Lampard earlier this week.
The Toffees have suffered nine defeats in their last 12 Premier League matches with Everton sitting in the relegation zone – but it looks like Dyche is being given money to spend before Tuesday’s deadline.
Football Insider claims that Everton have ‘made a move’ for Southampton forward Adams after they ‘reignited their interest’ in the Scotland international.
Everton are looking to secure ‘two attacking signings in the final days of the window’ after losing Gordon and they are ‘now working round-the-clock to bring in two forwards capable of slotting straight into the team’.
The Toffees were interested in Adams in the summer transfer window but the Saints ‘were not willing to sell’ but they ‘could change their stance in the coming days if they are successful in landing Stade Rennais forward Kamaldeen Sulemana’.
Incoming Everton boss Dyche spent 10 years at Burnley, winning two promotions from the Championship and even securing a seventh-place top-flight finish to take the club into Europe.
But he was sacked last April with the Clarets embroiled in a relegation battle which they failed to escape from.
And former Everton striker Kevin Campbell reckons Dyche will help the Toffees “get back to basics” and get the fans back on side.
Campbell told Goodison News: “100%. Trying to play complicated football is not what Everton need right now. Everton need back to basics, get on the front foot, get the crowd involved.
“Go and get some goals, go and put teams under pressure. That’s what the 12th man love. Then you get the fans back on your side. That’s how you do it.
“You don’t do it by playing fancy football and getting caught.”
