Everton have reportedly been offered the chance to sign a Tottenham attacker who no longer has a future at the club in the January transfer window.

Brazilian winger Lucas Moura looks set to end his five-year stay in north London as Spurs look to recoup some sort of transfer fee this month after deciding against taking up Lucas’ one-year contract extension.

Tottenham paid £25million to sign the 30-year-old from PSG in January 2018 but have decided to let his contract run down.

While that means Lucas can leave for nothing in the summer, Spurs are hoping a rival club will cough up a nominal fee to take him now.

And Everton are certainly in the category of needing help as soon as possible as they battle to beat the drop.

UOL Esporte in Lucas‘ native Brazil report that the Toffees have made contact to try and sign Lucas.

Sao Paulo are also keen to bring their former forward back, while the Daily Mail claims that there are also offers from England, Italy, Spain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United States.

However, if Spurs have indeed given Frank Lampard’s men the chance to sign the pacy forward, who always looks like he has a goal or two in him, it could be foolish to turn them down.

Everton flops force Lampard into action

Summer signings Dwight McNeil and Neal Maupay have been huge disappointments on Merseyside. To that end, Lampard is on the hunt for potentially two forwards players this month.

Bringing in Lucas could be another Tottenham to Everton gamble though, given how Dele Alli’s career at Goodison has gone.

The former PSG forward has not started a single Premier League game this season. He’s also been frozen out by Antonio Conte, making just eight substitute appearances.

And while he could have plenty on the tank, having hardly played, he may also take time to get to the pace of the Premier League again. That is time the Toffees clearly do not have.

Lucas only scored twice in 34 league outings last season too, so his output is clearly in decline.

It’s a far cry from 2019 when he banged in a memorable hat-trick at Ajax to steer Tottenham into the Champions League final.

That is when his career in north London should have exploded, but Lucas was then dropped in favour of the returning Harry Kane for the final showpiece clash with Liverpool and things never really took off from there.

However, on his day he can still be a matchwinner – and Everton do not have many of them in their ranks.

The Toffees are back in action on Saturday when they face a crunch clash with West Ham.
