Everton full-back Jonjoe Kenny is heading to Hertha Berlin on a free transfer, according to a report in Germany.

The 25-year-old is out of contract at the end of the month after turning down a new deal at Goodison Park.

Kenny, who has played 50 times for the club in the Premier League was offered terms to stay and Frank Lampard wanted to keep him. But Kenny has decided to move on after a 16-year stay.

The Athletic claim Kenny had an offer to stay in the Premier League as well as offers from Germany.

And it is one of those offers that Kenny has decided to take up, according to BILD.

The Liverpool-born defender, who made 15 Premier League appearances last season, will join Berlin next month. He will move to the German capital on a free transfer when his deal expires at Everton on June 30.

Kenny will return to the Bundesliga with Hertha after spending the 2019-20 season on loan at Schalke.

He made 34 appearances for Schalke, scoring twice and grabbing three assists and he is well regarded in Germany.

He also had loan spells at Oxford, Celtic and Wigan and he also captained Everton’s youth sides.

Kenny will join Gylfi Sigurdsson, Fabian Delph and Cenk Tosun in leaving Goodison Park this summer.

Jonjoe Kenny praise for Ashley Cole

The right-back, turned left-back filled in for the departed Lucas Digne last season. Kenny had hailed coach Ashly Cole as “different class” in helping him with the transition.

But a move abroad and a guaranteed start in his favoured right-back spot may well have been a big factor in Kenny deciding to leave.

Kenny claimed in March that he knew nothing about a contract extension.

“Nothing has been said (about a new deal),” Kenny said. “It might sound a bit clichéd but I’ve just needed to keep my head down, keep playing football and see where it takes us.

“I’ve been here 16 seasons now and, of course, I’m a boyhood Blue and I love the club. Whatever happens will happen. If I keep on performing and doing as well as I can helping Everton win games, I’m happy with that.”

But a deal was put to him in the last couple of months and the player has decided to forward his career in Germany.
