Liverpool drew just their second game of the Premier League season on Wednesday night. Arne Slot’s side had to settle for a point in a 3-3 draw against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

In what was a rollercoaster game, the Reds came from behind twice to lead 3-2 going into the 90th minute. Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah scoring Liverpool’s goals as they looked to increase the buffer at the top of the table.

But, Newcastle equalised going into added time. Caoimhin Kelleher, who has been praised for his performances since stepping in for the injured Alisson, misjudged a ball into the box to allow Fabian Schar to turn the ball into the net at the back post.

Despite the dropped points, Liverpool remain in a strong position at the top of the Premier League table. They have 35 points from their opening 14 games, and are seven points ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal in second and third as well as nine point ahead of reigning champions Man City in fourth, all three teams won on Wednesday night.

The Premier League always has the eyes of the world watching, with Liverpool one of the teams of particular interest. With that in mind, here’s how just some of the media from overseas reported on the game and the result - as they asked whether it opens up the Premier League title race.

De Telegraaf (the Netherlands)

In its match report, De Telegraaf wrote: “Arne Slot suffered a loss of points in the Premier League with leader Liverpool when visiting Newcastle United. In a duel to lick your fingers, it ended 3-3. Mohamed Salah played the roof off with Slot's team, who had to allow the equalizer in the 90th minute.”

Le Figaro (France)

In its match report, Le Figaro wrote: “The Reds slowed down at the end of a crazy scenario. This Wednesday during the 14th day of the Premier League, the leader Liverpool was expected on the Newcastle pitch to confirm its crazy last week (victories against Real Madrid and Manchester City). And the Reds had a delay in the ignition, led at the break on a superb goal signed Alexander Isak for the Magpies (35th). After the locker room, Mohamed Salah found Curtis Jones in the area (50th), 1-1.

“This same unstoppable Salah then thought he was taking on the role of saviour by scoring yet another double, on two back-passes from his sidekick Trent Alexander-Arnold (68th, 83rd). A few minutes earlier, Anthony Gordon (62nd) had given Newcastle the lead again. Who would, in a final burst of energy, snatch the equaliser thanks to their defender Fabian Schar (90th). Final score 3-3, the Scousers, having gone through all the emotions, nevertheless remain at the top of the Premier League but lose two points on their direct competitors.”

La Republicca (Italy)

In his match report for La Republicca, Antonello Guerrera wrote: “A crazy match between Newcastle and Liverpool reopens the championship, or at least a little. In the midweek round, the Reds go down twice against the Mag to a great goal by Isak and a second by Gordon , they turn the tables with Curtis and an increasingly monstrous Mohammed Salah.”

HLN (Belgium)

In its match report, HLN wrote: “After seven wins in a row - with victories against Real Madrid and Manchester City in the last two games - Liverpool were on cloud nine. Everyone assumed that Arne Slot's team would continue in that vein on the pitch in Newcastle, but things turned out differently…

“…And so the match between Newcastle and Liverpool ended after a spectacle at 3-3. Certainly not a disaster for the leader in the Premier League, but pursuers Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City are still two points closer. The two London clubs now follow on seven points, De Bruyne and co on nine. Is the title race not over yet?”
