The Witcher: Blood Origin cast open up about potential season 2
Following the release of the first season of The Witcher in December 2019, we've been obsessed with the fantasy franchise. Which might be why we were overjoyed about prequel Blood Origin, which lands on Netflix on Christmas Day 2022 (25th December.)
But following in the footsteps of Game Of Thrones' House Of The Dragon, will there be more than one season of The Witcher: Blood Origin? Can fans look forward to a season two being released any time soon? Here's what we know so far, from confirmation to release date to potential cast.
Has The Witcher: Blood Origin season 2 been confirmed?
Sadly, we've got bad news. Blood Origin was announced as a limited miniseries, which usually means the series is designed as a predetermined number of episodes which tells a complete story arc. That essentially suggests there won't be any cliffhangers in the final episode, or hints at what further seasons might hold.
But that doesn't mean a limited series has *never* turned into a multi-series show - just look at Big Little Lies, which was initially announced as a solo season, before a second season was created.
What have the cast said about The Witcher: Blood Origin season 2?
Speaking to Cosmopolitan UK, some of the cast shared their ideas about what they'd like to see happen in a second season. Sophia Brown, who plays Éile, said, "There's so much to explore in The Witcher universe and there are so many incredible characters in Blood Origin and in the [original] series, it's a playground for all the creatives attached to it. So I'd be open to [a season two]."
Laurence O’Fuarain, who plays Fjall, added, "I want to see how the humans start interacting with the Elves, and what that would bring. How that relationship kind of crackles and falls apart. There's so many avenues you can go down... We could see how the monsters are brought to the continent and how they are... And how The Witchers evolve. Definitely, season two, let's go!"

What might The Witcher: Blood Origin season 2 be about?
It's hard to know for sure as it hasn't been confimred, but the official synopsis for the first series read: "Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time - the origin of the very first Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal 'conjunction of the spheres,' when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one."
When might The Witcher: Blood Origin season 2 be released?
The Witcher prequel was originally announced in July 2020 with a tweet which read, "1200 years before Geralt of Rivia, the worlds of monsters, men and elves merged into one, and the first Witcher came to be. Announcing The Witcher: Blood Origin, a 6 part live-action The Witcher spin-off series from Declan de Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich."
Judging the timeline from announcement to release on 25 December 2022, around two and a half years, we're unlikely to see any more Blood Origin before mid-2025, if it was confirmed.
