Everything We Know About ‘The Buccaneers’ Season 2
Finally, a show that seems specifically for American girlies with serious addictions to all things United Kingdom. The Buccaneers, a delightful new show that's like an unintentional cross between Bridgerton and The Gilded Age, just premiered on Apple TV+ and I'm obsessed. You can live vicariously through these New York socialites trying to navigate London society and root for romance to prevail despite their differences. With so many characters and ever-changing storylines, I just know we're going to be wanting more at the end of the season. So here's what we know about The Buccaneers Season 2.
Well *is* The Buccaneers coming back for season 2?
There has not been any word from Apple TV+ about whether or not the show has been renewed. But it's still early!
What would season 2 be about, like, in theory?
Edith Wharton's novel The Buccaneers is famously unfinished, which presents an exciting challenge for the television series if they get to do a second season. They aren't beholden to a canon ending, because one does not really exist. There was an ending based on Wharton's outline and written by Marion Mainwaring added to the novel in 1993. The writers who adapted the book as a mini-series in 1995 (which starred Carla Gugino and Mia Sorvino, among others) gave it a different ending entirely.
Since Nan and her love triangle are the main focus of season 1, I would assume that the outcome of whatever choice she makes would be the focus of season 2. Just one girl's educated guess!
Who would return for The Buccaneers season 2?
This doesn't really seem like the type of show that would kill characters off, so I think it is safe to assume that most of the cast–including Kristine Froseth, Alisha Boe, Josie Totah and Christina Hendricks—would all return. I know at least one character I wish wouldn't return in season 2 (a certain terrifying Lord) but we sadly can't count on that.
When would The Buccaneers season 2 come out?
Now that both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are over, it's a little bit easier to speculate about when shows may return if and when they're renewed. In theory, the show could return around the same time next year. But still, the industry isn't going to get back on its feet just like that. If the show is renewed for season 2, it might premiere later in 2024 or early in 2025.
