The AC Milan vs Newcastle United game reminds Chelsea fans of some of the players they shipped out this season and season before with former striker Olivier Giroud leading the line brilliantly for the Italian side in the game in the 0-0 draw at the San Siro.
Midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek started but picked up a hamstring injury and had to be replaced while winger Christian Pulisic was full of running and creativity even if he could not find the goal or assist he would have wanted.
Fikayo Tamori was his usual combative self and was a warrior at the heart of the Italian defence as they dominated the game, but just could not find the back of the net.
But it was the performance of Olivier Giroud that would have caught the attention of fans, especially at a time Chelsea are struggling in front of goal. The Blues have dominated most games with the youngest squad in the Premier League with an average age of 23.5. This summer they allowed 13 internationals to leave Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have created the most chances in the league but the goals have dried up with new forward Nicolas Jackson only having one to show for in five league games.
Giroud left Chelsea two seasons ago but every season continues to prove that the decision to let him leave was the wrong one with goals and mature performance week in and week out for AC Milan.
He offers the option of being a target man but can also play directly with his finishing from the near post still one of the best in the game.
Chelsea look to be going a different direction though with the new owners deciding to go with young talents giving them long-term contracts with hopes that they fulfil ther potential.
