Former Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg has claimed Alisson Becker has been "disrespected" in the last couple of years, with many people not valuing him highly enough.

In 2019, Alisson won the goalkeeping prize at the Ballon d'Or which is named after the legendary Soviet shot-stopper Lev Yashin. Since then, however, he has not even found himself on the list of nominations in the last two seasons.

Speaking to LFC Transfer Room, Achterberg said: "Ali, you know, he has been the best in the world really for the last few years in my opinion. I can say that now because now I’m not his coach, but I look at it from the outside.

Alexis Mac Allister praises 'amazing' Arne Slot and names Liverpool ace he's 'lucky' to play with Gary Neville dismisses Liverpool title chances with five-word verdict after Man City vs Arsenal

"It’s probably a little bit disrespectful that the last two years he’s not really involved in the Yashin Trophy. And I know it might be done only on the Champions League, but in the first year, he was definitely, I think, in the Champions League and he was not even in the top 10.

"I’m not sure who is in charge there, but probably they don’t have a clue about goalkeeping too much because I think it’s really disrespectful that he’s not even in the top five. But you know, that’s for other people to decide."

Ronwen Williams, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Diogo Costa, Mike Maignan, Andriy Lunin, Yann Sommer, Gregor Kobel, Unai Simon, Martinez and Giorgi Mamardashvili, who Liverpool has signed ahead of 2025, are on the shortlist for this year. Alisson will be hoping to get back on the shortlist this time around, though he is currently out injured.

Liverpool.com says: Alisson is the best in the world with his only drawback being the muscle injuries that he seems to get at least once per season. Aside from that, every element of his game is elite and he is the complete package.
