Fabio Carvalho's father has urged the ex-Liverpool star to "get out" of Brentford just months after leaving Anfield due to believing he'd be stuck on the bench. The 22-year-old joined Thomas Frank's side this summer in a £27.5million deal despite a stellar pre-season with the Reds, where he netted against both Arsenal and Manchester United.

Although he impressed Arne Slot, Carvalho remained pessimistic about his chances to gain regular game-time. He suggested that when the likes of Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, and Diogo Jota were to return from their extended break due to their participation in the Copa America and Euros, he'd be jettisoned to the bench by Arne Slot.

When he opened up about his decision to leave Liverpool after two years, which included loan spells to RB Leipzig and Fulham, he told Sky Sports: "I did [think I'd have a role to play], but then it's like, when you play - I thought I did alright to be fair - but as a footballer you get that feeling where you know certain players aren't back and when they come back things change and that happened.

"I'm not going to just sit on the bench, because what's the point? I want to play football and show the world what I'm capable of, and why I train so hard every day. I'm not going to be able to do that by sitting on the bench."

Despite his big-money move, Carvalho has been forced to sit on the sidelines for much of the season, earning just 284 minutes of Premier League football with just one goal and one assist in 11 appearances.

After being an unused substitute in Brentford's 0-0 draw with Everton on Saturday (November 23), Carvalho's father Victor seemingly had enough with the minimal usage of his son this season as he replied to the club's official Instagram account when they posted the full-time score.

Displaying his anger, he urged the forward to leave the London outfit after just three months as he wrote: "Son, you need to get out [of] that club."

Carvalho's comments upon joining Brentford are a far cry from his current situation. He said: "As a player, you want to go somewhere where you’re wanted and somewhere where you’re loved – that’s why I’m here.

"You want to be part of a family, part of a structure, and that’s what Brentford is about. I’m just so happy to be here." It remains to be seen what the Portuguese star's future will look like following his father's online outburst.
