Ex-Raiders LB Vontaze Burfict arrested on battery charge in Las Vegas

Former Las Vegas Raiders linebacker Vontaze Burfict, currently out of the NFL, has reportedly found trouble yet again.

The NFL free agent was arrested early Saturday morning on a misdemeanor battery charge in Clark County, according to ESPN. The details of the alleged incident are reportedly unknown.

Burfict’s bond was reportedly set at $1,000, and he was reportedly released on his own recognizance with a hearing scheduled for Monday.

Long known as quite possibly the dirtiest player in the modern NFL, Burfict’s last appearance in the league came last season in Week 4 against the Indianapolis Colts. A vicious hit on Colts tight end Jack Doyle resulted in yet another suspension for Burfict, this time for the remainder of the 2019 season.

The NFL had little patience with Burfict due to his lengthy history of dirty hits and other misdeeds, and the suspension was later upheld on appeal against the Raiders’ and Burfict’s protests.

Burfict was quietly reinstated from suspension during the offseason, but it appears no team was willing to take a chance on a then-29-year-old free agent for whom suspensions are almost a tradition. This latest arrest won’t help change that.
