Former Wanderers striker Nathan Delfouneso has been linked with a move to North West neighbours Accrington Stanley.

The 31-year-old has been without a club since he was released by the Whites at the end of his contract over the summer.

Delfouneso came through the ranks at Aston Villa and also had spells with Burnley and Blackpool among others prior to his arrival at the UniBol.

He made more than 50 appearances during a two-year spell at Bolton and scored eight times during the 2020/21 League Two promotion season.

Opportunities were harder to come by last term, though the experienced forward did manage to get on the scoresheet in the Papa John’s Trophy fixtures against Port Vale and Liverpool Under-21s.

Delfouneso also spent time on loan at League Two outfit Bradford City during the second half of the campaign, playing six times for the Bantams in total.

Accrington are now "close to offering" the former Bolton man a contract, according to a Patreon report by Alan Nixon.

The Reds are currently 17th in the League One table, having picked up 10 points from their opening nine matches since the start of the new campaign.

John Coleman’s men recorded a 1-0 victory against Cheltenham Town at the weekend after Sean McConville’s first-half effort.

Wanderers are due to make the short trip to the Wham Stadium to face Stanley on Saturday, October 22.

The Whites recorded a 3-1 victory when the sides last met back in April thanks to Dapo Afolayan and a brace from Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.
