Following the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers revealed new signings are being ‘lined up’ amid a ‘difficult’ transfer window for the Foxes.

Leicester are the only Premier League team yet to bring an outfield player in. Their sole addition to the senior squad is 32-year-old goalkeeper Alex Smithies, who arrived on a free transfer from Cardiff City earlier this month.

The Foxes have struggled to capture new players, while also dealing with several stars wanting to move on.

Club captain Kasper Schmeichel left on August 3 by joining French side Nice. And Wesley Fofana is close to joining Saturday’s opponents Chelsea.

Various outlets report Chelsea have agreed a fee with Leicester for the centre-back. It is apparently worth an initial £70million, though this could rise to more than £80m through add-ons.

Leicester were beaten at Stamford Bridge as Raheem Sterling got his first two goals in a Chelsea shirt. The home side went down to 10 men due to Conor Gallagher’s first-half red card, but Leicester couldn’t capitalise on their man advantage.

Rodgers’ side did score in the 66th minute when Harvey Barnes played a nice one-two with Jamie Vardy and then smashed the ball past Edouard Mendy.

Despite hitting the crossbar late on, Leicester couldn’t find an equaliser. They are now four games without a win in the new Prem season.

Leicester lack stability, says Brendan Rodgers

During a post-match interview with Sky Sports (via BBC Sport), Rodgers was asked if the transfer window ending would help his team.

“There’s absolutely no doubt it will. Any good successful environment is built on stability and it’s clear it has been a difficult window for us,” he admitted.

“After the window shuts it will calm everything down and we can get back to winning games.”

In a rather exciting claim, Rodgers then revealed that new signings have already been ‘lined up’.

“Our recruitment team behind the scenes have done some amazing work and have players lined up if we are able to do anything,” the manager said.

On the match, Rodgers added: “I thought we were good in the game. There were lots of really good moments for us.

“We just started the second half too passively, we weren’t aggressive enough. When you go against a side that goes down to 10 men it can be difficult. So to go 2-0 down was a real challenge.

“To be fair to the players they changed the dynamic. We were unlucky not to draw but to lose is disappointing.

“Youri Tielemans has made a couple of great balls, Jamie [Vardy] his timing was excellent and he would normally put the chances away, but he was getting the chances.

“Harvey Barnes was outstanding for us, we knocked on the door a lot. There was a lot of good for us but we’re disappointed with the result.

“We have to press the first goal and have that ruthless streak when defending. And if we can do that we will pick up better results.”
