Exclusive: Man Utd, Liverpool, Newcastle, Chelsea to all replicate Man City model as multi-million plans come to light
Multi-club ownerships could soon become even more common place in the Premier League, with Graeme Bailey revealing that at least five more clubs are preparing to follow on from the Manchester City model.
The Cityzens have a number of sister clubs all under their ownership with New York City FC, Girona, Melbourne City among several clubs under their umbrella.
Indeed, Manchester City have used the model to not only share players but also develop the career paths of potential managers.
And with the cream of the crop potentially benefiting City, the model has worked to great effect.
Now Bailey claims a number of their Premier League rivals are also considering the concept of multi-club ownership.
And while the idea is still in its infancy for many clubs, we could soon be reading about a number of prospective deals.
“Manchester City have led the way in world football when it comes to multi-club ownership,” Bailey told TEAMtalk. “The likes of Brighton, Brentford and Watford also have sister clubs – but I understand we about to see a real acceleration on that front.
“Newcastle United have always planned to go down the multi-club route under their new owners and co-owner Amanda Staveley admitted only this week they would be looking at that route.
“But they are not alone, I understand that within 12 months, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United – new owners are not – could also be exploring that option.”
