Excuses, small injuries and Olise - inside Unai Emery's Aston Villa press conference
Unai Emery spoke to the media at Bodymoor Heath ahead of Aston Villa's Premier League clash against Crystal Palace on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
Villa are searching for their first win in a month after losing four in a row following a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth at the end of October. Here's every word Emery said in his pre-match press conference...
How easy is it to improve when your players are playing for their countries?

"There are 38 matches in the Premier League. Of course, sometimes we can get good results and sometimes not. We have to accept it. When we were finishing before the break [October] with good results, we were happy. We finished the last time with some bad results and we weren’t happy. We have to accept it. We have to manage our frustration and we have to try to keep balance in our process.

"We have to try to keep calm and rest players after the players who played for their national team. We are focusing on the match tomorrow like something very, very important. We are more or less with the points we were expecting, maybe more or maybe less. I think we are in the right way. Even losing, we are in the right way. Tomorrow is very important how we can respond at Villa Park."
Who has been ruled out for the match?
"Konsa, Amadou Onana, Kamara and Ramsey. We are adding other players after small injuries like Cash and Barkley. We are going to try to feel confident with the players we have in the squad, trying to be ready when the opportunity to play is coming for them."
Could a continuation of poor results derail Villa’s season?
"Thirty-eight matches, this is the summary. We play the top seven at home and away and the other teams at home and away. We played the last two matches against Tottenham and Liverpool. The result was no surprise for us. Of course we wanted to fight and face those teams maybe playing more or less like I planned, but we made some mistakes and against teams like that it is difficult to get points.
"We are at home feeling strong playing in the idea and style we are building. Even when we are not winning, we are in the right way. For example against Bournemouth we drew, but we played like I want to play. This is the way I want. We need to try and be clinical in attack and defensively as well.
"Try to analyse deeply how we can get better even playing like we want, not taking points and losing opportunities to win. Even when we are winning we have to be analysing deeply everything and when losing we do that more. We need to be positive and continue to work."
Palace have beaten you already this season - what do you expect from them?
"Every match is difficult. There are a lot of teams a few points apart. Tomorrow after match maybe it can change the position we are in now. Crystal Palace, they have all my respect because we can analyse them playing against us three weeks ago. They battled against us here and they beat us.
"Last year they played fantastic the last four months of the season. They started playing the same idea and style and they have some injuries. Olise is now not in the squad, but they are playing the same like they did last season. They deserve more points they have now. My respect is a lot.
"I know if we are not playing more in the same way, being more demanding in the small details, we are not going to win tomorrow. I am working on it and we are trying to correct small details. We are playing in front of Villa Park in front of our supporters who are really motivated and they are looking forward to us responding tomorrow. It is a very great match tomorrow."
Have you noticed a problem with your player’s confidence?
"We lost against Tottenham and Liverpool away. We are in the table more or less with the same possibilities like we did last year to be in the top eight, top seven, top five. We are currently out of it but tomorrow we have the chance to recover the position."
Do you worry about complacency playing against a team who have struggled so far?
"I think I responded before. We have a lot of respect of them. It is because we analyse them and try to dominate and impose our game plan with our tactical idea. The duels against the players they have too. In the Premier League it is very difficult. We can remind ourself about matches we played last year against teams who are towards the bottom of the table.
"Last year, Sheffield United at home we drew in the last minute and we came back against Burnley with a penalty in the last minute. We know our way and how we can feel comfortable and strong, playing with our idea. We know that if we are not playing focused and not respecting the opponent, it is more difficult to get the objective we are facing."
When will Konsa and Onana return?
"They have small injuries. They have to rest and recover. Each day is important. Maybe [they] could come back for the next match, but I have to focus on the players we have now."
Due to injuries you haven’t played a settled back four. What impact has that had on results?
"We don’t want to use and speak about some excuses because injuries are happening. We have to be competitive always. Of course, if we had every player available in the back four, maybe we can get easier our objective but it is not my concern. I am really, really focusing every player and that they have to play comfortable in our structure. This is my focus and my concern everyday."
