Exeter City ready to take on whoever they get in FA Cup

Exeter City will look forward to Monday night’s FA Cup third round draw full of confidence for whoever they get pitted against. The Grecians reached the third round for the first time in four seasons after they eased past League Two Chesterfield on Saturday.

Tristan Crama’s third goal of the season eventually broke the deadlock for Gary Caldwell’s men in first half stoppage time after they had totally dominated the opening 45 minutes. Josh Magennis, hat-trick hero in the first round, doubled the lead midway through the second half to make it 2-0.

City were in total control and it was a routine victory that never looked like being in any doubt. After three games without a goal, Exeter looked like a much more dynamic unit going forward and had chances to further extend the lead and make the scoreline even more convincing than it was.

“We are in it, that’s the big thing,” Caldwell said when asked who he wanted. “Would be nice to get a big tie away from home, financially, but also it would be good to progress. We will see what we get, the luck of the draw, but we want to be fighting in three competitions at the turn of the year.”

“We are really happy going into the third round,” striker Millenic Alli said. “We could get a bigger club, and show what we could do. But we don’t mind who we draw, whoever comes our way we'll take it and we will show what we can do.”

He added: “Me and Immy were the out ball, it was so something worked on. It can be a bit nervy at 1-0 as anything can happen but Josh was in the right place, right time, and we took the opportunity. We take pride in our defensive work, we don’t concede a lot of goals so try and stay on top of that.”

Exeter City are back in action on Tuesday night when they host League One leaders Wycombe Wanderers at St James Park. But first, Monday night’s draw, and the chance of keeping the cup run going.
