Exiting Coloni pleased to show pace

Scuderia Coloni believes it proved the quality of its GP2 team by setting the top two times at this week's post-season test at Barcelona.

Category veteran Luca Filippi set the fastest time of the entire test, despite only running during the morning of the first day.

Daniel de Jong made it a Coloni one-two, and their times were not bettered on a rain-affected second day.

Coloni is set to leave the championship after the final 2012 test at Jerez later this month, following what the series described earlier this year as "a disagreement between Coloni Motorsport and GP2 Organisation."

Team boss Paolo Coloni said: "I'm very proud for the results scored by my drivers in this test.

"Even though we are set to leave this championship at the end of the year, we proved that we are one of the top teams in the series and our drivers can aim for the front end of the charts."

Coloni also hailed the contribution of Filippi, who finished second in the 2011 championship to Romain Grosjean following a mid-season switch to the Italian team, and took a comeback victory with the squad at Monza this year.

"The talent and skills of Luca were never under discussion in 2011," he said. "The same goes for this season, when he came back with a victory and took pole in Singapore.

"The great laptimes set at Barcelona with Daniel also highlighted our car's performance. He was extremely fast in wet and dry conditions."
