Explosion hits Borussia Dortmund team bus ahead of Champions League tie, Marc Bartra hospitalised

German authorities have confirmed reports of three explosions involving the Borussia Dortmund team bus ahead of the club's Champions League tie against Monaco.

Dortmund confirmed the incident via their official Twitter with defender Marc Bartra taken to hospital to treat minor wounds.

Wednesday's match has now been postponed and rearranged for Thursday (12 April) with a kick-off time of 5:45pm.

The incident took place in Höchsten, approximately six miles away from Dortmund's Westfalenstadion.

A statement from local police read: "In the run-up to the Champions League match of BVB against AS Monaco, there was an explosion near the BVB team team bus shortly after 7pm.

"The location of the event is Wittbräuckerstraße/Schirrmannweg in Dortmund-Höchsten. According to current knowledge the windows of the bus (whole or partial) were shattered and one person was injured. It is not yet possible to say exactly what the explosion was or exactly where something exploded."

Spanish publication SPORT claim to have spoken to the former Barcelona defender who is "okay but in state of shock" having suffered minor wounds from glass shattering on the bus.

Dortmund's official Twitter initially reported the incident at 6:40pm [BST]. "Explosion at the team bus at the team hotel. Players are safe. No danger in and around the stadium."

The club has also asked fans already inside the stadium to remain calm as an investigation is carried out.

The decision to cancel Wednesday's match was made at 7:30pm [BST] with a statement from Uefa reading: "Following tonight's incident involving the Borussia Dortmund team bus, the Uefa Champions League match between Borussia Dortmund and AS Monaco has been postponed until tomorrow 18:45 CET.

"This decision was made after a meeting held at the Westfalenstadion between Uefa, representatives of the two clubs and local authorities."
