F1 2021 game announced with brand new story mode

F1 2021 is officially on the way, with Codemasters and Electronic Arts announcing that a new video game is on the horizon.

Described as a "next-generation racing experience", F1 2021 will be released worldwide on July 16 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.

The game is set to be packed with content, with the teams, drivers and circuits for the 2021 FIA Formula One World Championship all included, as well as a brand-new story mode and an expanded Career mode with two-player option.

Braking Point, the new story mode, will take you on an epic journey as you race to rise from the ranks of Formula 2 to a shot at stardom in the world of Formula 1. The mode promises to immerse you into the glamorous world of F1, providing a taste of the lifestyle - but also the dedication needed to compete at the highest level.

Braking Point will also re-introduce players to controversial figure Devon Butler, who will return after debuting in F1 2019 as a rival to the player's character.

Franchise Game Director at Codemasters, Lee Mather, has said of the story mode: "Braking Point is an exciting innovation that has been years in the making. We are proud to expand the game experience and allow players to live the highs and lows of life in Formula 1 both on and off the track.

"Braking Point transforms the game and puts players centre stage in the greatest racing spectacle on the planet."

Fans of the Career mode will be pleased to hear that this has been expanded, with a new two-player option allowing friends to join online and play co-operatively, or alternatively to choose different teams and take rivalries to the track, with each player having complete control over their assists.

Career mode will also introduce Real-Season Start, which enables players to begin their game at any point in the season with real-time driver and constructor standings.

The driver-manager experience My Team will be returning, as will a two-player split-screen option, shorter season options for both F1 and F2, esports integration and accessible menus and handling.

Players can also get their hands on three new circuits – Portimão, Imola, and Jeddah – which will be available to all players as free post-launch content (see the game's website for conditions and restrictions).
