The F1 starting grid has now been set following the sport’s first ever Sprint Shootout on Saturday, with Charles Leclerc having taken pole for the sprint on Saturday afternoon.

The Ferrari driver followed up his form from qualifying on Friday and once again beat the Red Bull drivers to the front of the grid, this time pipping Sergio Perez to P1, with Max Verstappen rounding out the top three in the first of Saturday’s sessions.

George Russell put his Mercedes fourth on the grid for the sprint, and Carlos Sainz in the second Ferrari finished off the top five.

Meanwhile Esteban Ocon will start from the pit lane after Alpine took his car out of parc ferme conditions to work on an undisclosed problem, while Logan Sargeant was withdrawn after his heavy crash at the end of SQ1.

Points are available for the top eight finishers in the shortened 17-lap dash around the Baku City Circuit later on Saturday, with the F1 starting grid having already been set for Sunday’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
