England star Nikita Parris scored a brace to become the top scorer in FA WSL history.

It was a record-breaking weekend in the FA Women’s Super League and Championship as a new all-time top goalscorer was crowned and another team grabbed their first-ever win in the competition.

Arsenal’s march to the title continued as Manchester United triumphed to move top of the second flight.

This is what we learned from the round eight matches.

Nikita Parris is a record-breaker

Manchester City’s Nikita Parris was the star of the show as she slotted two goals in the 3-0 win over Liverpool.

The feat meant Parris became the record goalscorer in FA WSL with 37 goals, to move ahead of Eni Aluko.

Parris also notched her tally for the season up to nine goals, two behind Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema at the top of the goalscoring charts.

Yeovil gain first-ever WSL win to move of the foot of the table

Yeovil Town earned their first league win since joining the WSL two years with a 1-0 victory over fellow strugglers Everton, leapfrogging their opponents in the process.

All the pain of the last two seasons evaporated in an instant when Hannah Short fired home from distance after her own free-kick was cleared back to her, to break the curse that has been hanging over the club.

Everton almost forced an equaliser at the other end, but Meg Walsh was on hand to rescue her side with an outstanding double save to deny the Blues.

Arsenal unstoppable at the top

Arsenal continued their perfect start to the season with a huge 3-1 win over Birmingham City, but they had to dig deep to record their eighth league win in a row.

Jordan Nobbs put Joe Montemurro’s side ahead on 57 minutes with a neat finish over Ann-Katrin Berger, but the Blues hit back instantly inside a minute when Emma Follis ran onto a wonderful through ball.

It was Follis’ first strike for Birmingham since joining the club in 2017 and it looked as though City may have been able to hold out.

But it wasn’t to be as Lisa Evans was tugged back in the penalty area, allowing Danielle van de Donk to sweep home from the penalty spot.

Evans put the icing on the cake in added time to claim a 3-1 win and show that Arsenal don’t have to always rely on top scorer Vivianne Miedama’s presence up front.

United favourites for Championship promotion

Manchester United came through their latest major test of the FA Women’s Championship by hammering Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 to move to the top of the table, above Spurs.

Casey Stoney’s side went ahead early on through Lauren James’ finish, before Jess Sigsworth doubled their advantage inside 20 minutes.

Sigsworth headed home another before the break to become the league’s new top scorer and the rout was completed when Charlie Devlin slotted after the break.

Spurs’ Angela Addison pulled one back, but it was too late to have an impact as United put down a major marker for the rest of the season and established themselves as the side to beat this campaign.

Chelsea are back

Reigning champions Chelsea avoided a potential banana skin with a comfortable 2-0 win over West Ham United.

A magnificent double from Ramona Bachmann earned the Blues a first back-to-back league victory of the season at Rush Green.

It marked a stellar end to the week for Chelsea as they breezed into the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals in midweek.
