France head coach Fabien Galthie fought back the tears after his side’s record victory over England in the Six Nations on Saturday.

Les Bleus ran out 53-10 victors over the English, scoring seven tries in an historic win that sent a message to their Rugby World Cup rivals.

It was the first time since 2005 that France have claimed a win over the Red Rose at Twickenham in the Championship.

Full-back Thomas Ramos steered Galthie’s side to victory with a 23-point personal haul, resulting in England’s heaviest home defeat in their history.

Emotional Galthie

Galthie was understandably beaming with pride after his team’s comprehensive performance and struggled to hold the tears back during his post-match interview.

During his playing days, Galthie clashed with England on 10 occasions, winning seven of those fixtures.

However, he lost on all three of his visits to Twickenham for Le Crunch.

“Moving moment”

He was asked whether he realised the magnitude of what his team had achieved.

“Yes, I realise. I’ve been coming to Twickenham since I was 20, so I realise. It’s a very moving moment,” Galthie replied.

“We played well, just as we wanted. We wanted to do that. We didn’t know how, but we wanted to do that.

“This venue, this context, it’s not luck. We have been working with these players for four years. There is a lot of confidence. At the start of the tournament, we weren’t happy, but we were in the truth of it. The players wanted to produce the match; they produced the match.”

The Les Bleus boss also conveyed his sympathy for England.

“It’s tough for England. I feel for them; I want to pay tribute to them,” Galthie said.

“When you realise the importance of English rugby in this country, to have to go through that here. This team is going through a tough time.”

The victory keeps France’s hopes of defending the Six Nations alive.

They return home on the final weekend of the Championship where they will host Wales.
