Fabio Silva bags first Las Palmas goal since Rangers exit as striker makes up for howler miss
Fabio Silva has bagged his first goal since departing Rangers, scoring for his new team Las Palmas.
The Portuguese striker spent the latter half of the previous season at Ibrox on loan from Wolves, netting six goals in 25 appearances across all competitions. The 22 year old - who set Wolves back £35million when they acquired him from Porto in 2020 - compensated for an earlier blunder in the match by securing his first Las Palmas goal against Villarreal on Monday evening.
With just 10 minutes into the game, Silva astonishingly botched a shot from just outside the six-yard-box, but redeemed himself with a spectacular finish two minutes into the second half. The Portugal U21 international was spotted by a superb pass from ex-Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj to chip the Villareal keeper and equalise after former Arsenal disappointment Nicolas Pepe had given the hosts the lead.
However, his efforts proved to be futile, as goals from Thierno Barry and Alex Baena in the final six minutes handed Villareal the three points and cosigned Las Palmas to a eighth successive La Liga game without a victory. Silva isn't the only recognisable name to have signed with the La Liga team this summer, recently joining forces with ex-Aberdeen star Scott McKenna and fellow Scotland international forward Oli McBurnie.
Las Palmas returned to the top-flight last season after five years back in the Segunda Division. They finished 16th in La Liga last season, seven points clear of the relegation zone.
