Falcao was a potent attacking force for Atlético de Madrid, and bagged two goals. His goals came in the sixth and 90th minutes. Falcao ended the game with nine completed passes and four total shots.

Roque Santa Cruz scored on a header for Málaga in the 36th minute.

Atlético de Madrid had 48.6% of possession during the victory. The winners had nine shots, including three on target. The combination of Filipe Luis to Adrián was the most common during the match, as the two players connected 13 times.

Málaga had 51.4% of the possession during the loss. They had eight shots, including two on target. Isco had two shots for Málaga, more than any of his team-mates.

Málaga's inability to take the lead in the first half, even while controlling 53.0% of the possession, was an early indication of the eventual result. Both sides had three shots in the first half, and Atlético de Madrid put one attempt on goal compared with two for Málaga.

Atlético de Madrid continued their unbeaten streak, which now stands at seven matches. Málaga now sit in third in the table with a record of four wins, one loss and two draws.
