Fantasy Baseball: What will Chase Silseth do for an encore?

Fantasy baseball analyst Fred Zinkie looks ahead to Friday's MLB slate and offers up his top tips.

Pickup of the Day

Christian Walker (1B, Arizona Diamondbacks, 25 percent rostered): Yahoo managers are starting to jump on the Walker bandwagon, but there is plenty of room for more passengers. The slugger sits ninth in the Majors with nine home runs, and his power production is backed up by strong rates of fly balls (47.1 percent) and hard contact (47.1 percent). And despite producing quality contact, Walker has been held back in the batting average department (.206) by a .200 BABIP. From this point forward, he should hit .250 or better.

DFS plays of the Day

Chase Silseth (SP, Los Angeles Angels, $28): Silseth looked good in his first Major League start, allowing just one hit across six shutout innings against the A’s. The rookie right-hander will face Oakland for a second time tonight, which should lead to another set of strong statistics. Oakland ranks last in the Majors in many offensive metrics, including OPS vs. righties (.569). Finally, Silseth’s chances to earn a win should be helped by an Angels lineup that leads the American League in runs scored.

Brandon Nimmo (OF, New York Mets, $21): When healthy, Nimmo is a terrific leadoff man who reaches base often. He could make multiple trips around the bases when he hits at the top of the lineup tonight at hitter-friendly Coors Field against struggling Rockies righty German Marquez (6.16 ERA, 1.53 WHIP). With balanced career splits that include an .854 OPS vs. right-handers, Nimmo is primed to succeed against Marquez and a weak Rockies bullpen.

Notes

  • Trevor Story (2B/SS, Boston Red Sox) started the process of turning about a slow start to the season when he collected three homers, seven RBIs and a stolen base on Thursday. The buy-low window on Story may have just slammed shut.

  • Tyler O’Neill (OF, St. Louis Cardinals) was placed on the IL with a right shoulder impingement. In a corresponding move, starter Jack Flaherty was transferred to the 60-day IL.

  • Max Meyer (SP, Miami Marlins) was placed on the Minor League IL with ulnar nerve irritation. One of baseball’s best pitching prospects, Meyer will now be several weeks or months from receiving a promotion.

  • Starling Marte (OF, New York Mets) will come off the bereavement list Friday.

  • Harrison Bader (OF, St. Louis Cardinals) stole two bases on Thursday and now sits in a three-way tie for the Major League lead.

  • Anthony Santander (OF, Baltimore Orioles) capped off a three-hit afternoon by walking off the Yankees with a three-run homer.

  • Jose Ramirez (3B, Cleveland Guardians) will undergo tests after fouling a ball off his shin Thursday.

  • Yu Darvish (SP, San Diego Padres) lowered his ERA to 3.91 by tossing seven shutout innings in a win over the Phillies.

  • Mitch Garver (C, Texas Rangers) returned from a minimum stay on the IL and should be activated in all fantasy leagues.
