Fantasy Champions League - Tips to Win at MondoGoal

Fantasy managers only receive a minimal break this week as the turnaround from FPL to Champions league is a quick one. With over £10,000 on offer for this matchweek alone, it’s the perfect time to get involved in Mondogoal’s one day UCL fantasy contests and we’re here to help you win.

Keeper

For double ups and smaller contests, there is not a compelling reason to stray from our old friend Iker Casillas, FC Porto v. Maccabi Tel Aviv (£8,0m) as they have by far the easiest matchup. Jaume, Valencia v. FAA Gent (£7,2m) and Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Barcelona at BATE Borisov (£7,7m) are the other options if you decide you want 4 Porto outfield players or just want to differentiate.

If you think the tension of playing for second will slow the game down in Croatia, both keepers are screaming discounts following their matches with Arsenal and Bayern. Eduardo, Dinamo Zagreb v. Olympiakos (£4,8m) and Roberto, Olympiakos at Dinamo Zagreb (£3,9m) provide the budget savings to allow for free reign across the rest of your lineup, with the latter being particularly attractive.

Defender

We are looking at the same 3 teams for defenders as we did for our cash game keepers: Porto, Barca, and Valencia.

Valencia have the most exciting attacking defensemen of the 3 teams with Jose Gaya (£8,7m) and Joao Cancelo (£7,3m). Barcelona have old standbys Jordi Alba (£9,9m) and Dani Alves (£9,7m) though their centre backs offer savings. Porto appear to be missing Maicon but Miguel Layun (£7,1m) and Maxi Pereira (£9,0m) will be highly owned and justifiably so, though we lean towards Layun given the lower price.

We are steering away from the riskier defenders though there are values to be had in some of the lesser sides.

Midfielder

Our primary focus is Porto and that starts to reveal itself in the midfield with several different options. We believe Yacine Brahimi (£8,2m) to be their best player and at his price it’s hard to justify not making room. He has Champions League experience and success which is always a nice statistic to lean on. Jesus Corona (£9,1m) is more expensive than we’d like but he’s earned it with 4 goals in the past month. Andre Andre and Ruben Neves are not bad options either.

Barcelona up and comer Sergi Roberto (£7,6m) is priced well considering he should be moving back to his midfield position more regularly with the return of Alves. Valencia winger Sofiane Feghouli (£7,9m) has been outstanding in Champions League play so far, while Dani Parejo (£12,1m) would need to be gifted a penalty most likely to justify his price, though both are very much in play.

Thiago Alcantara, Bayern Munich at Arsenal (£11,3m) should take on a larger role with the litany of injuries for Bayern. The counterattack is always open against the Gunners.

Forward

With Messi still injured, budget is not a problem this week. This allows both Neymar (£15,1m) and Suarez (£15,1m) to be included from Barcelona. Suarez has been better in Champions League play while Neymar is coming off of a 4 goal outburst in domestic competition. If you must choose just one, flipping a coin may be prudent.

The best competition of quality, price and matchup this week is Vincent Aboubakar (£9,3m) for Porto. After scoring 6 in 5 to start the season he is goalless in 4 straight. Maccabi is an excellent place to break his slump. Similarly, Paco Alcacer (£7,2m)has been scorching hot in international play for Spain but can’t seem to get in a groove for his club Valencia. This would be a good time to start.

We’ll be back to take a look at Wednesday's matches. In the meantime remember, you can have anyone you want on Mondogoal, but you can’t have everyone you want, so use your budget wisely!
