Fantasy Football Rankings Week 12: Running back

  • Fantasy Football Rankings Week 12: Running back

Maybe our Week 12 fantasy RB rankings should just recommend whoever the new Lions' RB is this week. It was Ty Johnson a few weeks ago, who quickly gave way to Tra Carson before going back to Johnson. In Week 11, it was Bo Scarbrough. In all seriousness, that's a frustrating situation for fantasy owners, so we might be better off avoiding Detroit's backfield entirely.

You can draw from multiple San Francisco running backs this week against th Packers' poor run defense. Obviously you'll use Tevin Coleman, and we'll have to wait and see on whether it's Matt Breida (ankle) or Raheem Mostert backing him up. Whoever it is will be a solid FLEX play. You can also rely on whoever the Pittsburgh running backs are. James Conner's shoulder injury could allow for Jaylen Samuels and Trey Edmunds to run all over Cincinnati. Jonathan Williams in also in play in relief of Marlon Mack (hand).

It might be best to avoid last week's waiver-wire favorite Brian Hill in Week 12, though. The Buccaneers have a terrible pass defense but are one of the league's few best against the run, so expect Atlanta to throw a ton in that one. We won't advise you to sit Ezekiel Elliott, but he's been a bit of a disappointment this season and probably won't dominate against the Patriots in Week 12. Zeke's longest run of the season was for 27 yards (only three yards longer than Sam Darnold's longest run). That doesn't mean a ton, but it just hasn't quite been the year you'd hope for from Elliott.

There are two things we want to be sure to point out. The first is in Denver, where pregame reports last week suggested Phillip Lindsay would see an uptick in carries. That held true, as he doubled Royce Freeman in attempts, 16-8, and picked up 67 yards on the ground. If that keeps up, Lindsay will be a solid RB2 play the rest of the season.

The second is to acknowledge Derrius Guice is back. He scored on a 45-yard receiving touchdown where he made the big play happen on a short pass. Guice received seven carries to Adrian Peterson's nine, and that workload should only rise. Given his matchup against the Lions, he's in play this week.

Fantasy owners will be without the following RBs due to Week 12 bye: Dalvin Cook, Melvin Gordon/Austin Ekeler, Damien Williams and Kenyan Drake/David Johnson.

Reminder: As always, we expect to make plenty of changes to these rankings throughout the week, so check back for updates.
