Fantasy Football: Three zero RB sleepers

Fantasy Football
Fantasy Football

Have you heard about this zero running back strategy in fantasy football? It was pioneered a few years ago by Shawn Siegele at RotoViz. The idea is to hold off taking running backs like Todd Gurley and Adrian Peterson early and building up the other positions, particularly wide receivers in PPR leagues. Then, once everything else is taken care of, use your final picks at RB.

If your league is prone to taking RBs early, you might want to consider zero RB in order to counter that.

Here’s three backs who should still be available in the later rounds once the rest of your roster is filled out.

Fantasy Football: Zero RB sleepers

1. Darren Sproles: Philadelphia Eagles

When you finally do get around to picking your running back, you want one that’s a dual threat who can earn points on the ground and through the air. Last season Sproles caught 55 passes for 388 yards and a touchdown. At his peak he’s gone as high as 86 catches, 710 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. If your league has points for punt returns, there’s no better value pick than Sproles near the end of your draft.

2. Theo Riddick: Detroit Lions

Riddick was one of the most pleasant fantasy football surprises of 2015. Even though he didn’t see much action running the ball, he was a gold-mine for PPR owners. In 16 games he was targeted 99 times. Those opportunities turned into 80 catches, 697 yards and three touchdowns. If Ameer Abdullah’s fumble problems re-surface in 2016, you could be looking at a monster sleeper candidate in Riddick.

3. DeAndre Washington: Oakland Raiders

Oakland’s projected starter Latavius Murray was not very efficient last season, which could pave the way for more playing time for rookie DeAndre Washington. 2015 was a breakout year for Washington at TTU. He averaged 6.4 yards per carry, finishing the season with 1,877 yards and 16 touchdowns from scrimmage.
