Liverpool fans are in need of a pick-me-up after Saturday's shock loss to Nottingham Forest - and thankfully for Arne Slot, another game is just around the corner.

Slot and his players will fly to Italy on Monday ahead of Tuesday's Champions League meeting with AC Milan at the San Siro. Rotation may be the order of the day with regards to Slot's team selection after several players struggled to find their usual high level at Anfield after the international break.

Mohamed Salah played in Egypt and Botswana a matter of days before Liverpool's game against Forest, while there were also three South Americans in the line-up.

Salah and Colombian Luis Diaz were part of a tired-looking attack, while Alexis Mac Allister was taken off after an hour following an international break that was filled with injury scares.

Federico Chiesa is yet to make his Liverpool bow and did not make the bench for the visit of Forest, but he will hope to be involved in some capacity upon his return to his home country.

Chiesa has more experience than most, if not all, of the players in Liverpool's squad when it comes to facing AC Milan, and on his first appearance against the Rossoneri for Juventus he showed exactly why he was one of the most sought-after wingers in world football.

In January 2021, Chiesa travelled to the San Siro as a Juventus player for the first time having joined on loan from Fiorentina the previous summer.

Then just 23 years old, the winger produced a match-winning display for the visitors, scoring a goal in each half - one with his right foot and one with his left - to put Juventus 2-1 up on the way to a 3-1 win for the Bianconeri.

It was the latest in a series of productive performances by Chiesa at the San Siro. For Fiorentina, Chiesa either scored or assisted in each of his four appearances away to Milan, registering a total of three assists and scoring two goals.

A serious knee injury and its subsequent effect on Chiesa's fitness meant he missed Juve's visits to Milan in 2021-22 and 2022-23, and he was restricted to a 12-minute cameo last term, but it's fair to say he has fond memories of playing against the Rossoneri. Liverpool fans will be hoping he makes even more good ones this week.
