Fedor: I Have Told the UFC Many Times That I Want a Fight with Fabricio Werdum
Fedor Emelianenko has long been considered “the one that got away” from the UFC when the world's largest fight promotion purchased Japan's Pride FC and inked many of its fighters, merging them into its own roster.
Considered on of, if not the, greatest heavyweight mixed martial artist of all time, Fedor is the one fighter that the UFC really, really wanted, but couldn't come to terms with.
Fedor retired in the summer of 2012, but emerged last year when he finally decided that he wanted to continue fighting. As soon as word hit the street that he would return, nearly everyone assumed that he would do so in the Octagon. What else would he return for? The UFC was the one unconquered territory for him.
Instead of stepping in the Octagon, however, Fedor inked a deal with the upstart Rizin Fighting Federation, a Japan-based organization that is basically an attempt at resurrecting the phenomenon that was Pride.
While most felt that Rizin shut the door forever on Fedor fighting in the Octagon, in a recent interview with Epic MMA, Fedor says that is not so.
“I've been asked about the UFC a lot,” said Fedor. “Our doors are open and we are talking about it. Maybe it will happen in the future.”
Fedor even has a target in mind, should he and the UFC ever agree to terms. Although he lost via a questionable doctor's stoppage early on in his career, Fedor's first loss in the modern area, and without controversy, was to Fabricio Werdum, the current UFC heavyweight champion. That is a fight that he'd like to get back.

“I've told the UFC many times that I want and would accept that fight,” Fedor continued. But they are nowhere near making that fight happen.
For his next bout, Fedor expects to be fighting in front of his countrymen in Russia, although he fell short of revealing any specific details about whom he would fight and when.
