Steve McManaman has named a combined XI made up of Liverpool and Real Madrid players ahead of this weekend’s Champions League final.

The Reds are looking to complete the treble this weekend in Paris. They have already won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup this term.

Real Madrid meanwhile have finished 13 points clear at the top of La Liga. They beat PSG, Chelsea and Man City in dramatic fashion to reach the final of the Champions League.

Liverpool meanwhile defeated Inter Milan, Benfica and Villarreal to progress to the final.

Four years ago, the English side were beaten 3-1 by Real Madrid in the final of the competition.

This time around, Liverpool are considered to be the favourites to lift the trophy.

McManaman appeared for Liverpool and Real Madrid during his playing career. Luka Modric and Karim Benzema are the only Madrid players he picked, as he left out Thiago plus one of Diogo Jota or Luis Diaz. When discussing the goalkeeper spot, he said:

“Thibaut Courtois has had a good season, he’s got his critics and had his critics in his first season, but he’s had a really good season,” McManaman told Betway Insider.

“But unfortunately I’m going to go for Alisson Becker.”

On the forwards, McManaman added: “Salah started his season really, really well. The number of goals put him ahead of everybody. Vinicius Jr. is a very unlucky person to miss out, but the fact he’s up against Sadio Mane – who’s in great form at the moment, he’s just won the African Cup of Nations of course, in January, put them through in the World Cup.

“Salah had a really good four or five months and I think Mane’s really picked up the baton recently, so he deserves to be in my team as well. Karim’s had the best season he’s ever had. He’s just in that moment at the minute where everything he touches turns to gold. Two Real Madrid players, nine Liverpool players. That’s how I feel at the moment.”

McManaman’s Liverpool and Real Madrid Combined XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold; Van Dijk, Konate, Robertson; Modric, Fabinho, Henderson; Mane, Benzema, Salah.
