Former India opener Virender Sehwag did not like Sunrisers Hyderabad’s performance in their IPL 2021 match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. His comments came after seeing their runs as they could only manage 115 runs in their 20 overs while batting first.

Despite having some big-hitters in the playing XI, no one could do well and managed only 36 runs in their last five overs. While describing SRH’s innings on his Facebook Watch show Virugiri Dot Com, Virender Sehwag shared his views.

“Hyderabad started with Roy and Saha but the two returned to the dugout in quick succession. After this, Williamson and Garg handled the innings a bit. But it was such a slow wicket and runs were being scored at such a slow pace that even on the TV screen, a message popped up – ‘Sorry for the Interruption.’ Williamson scored 26 runs and Garg made 21,” he said.

“After this, Abdul Samad came and he hit three sixes. But after scoring 25 runs, he too got out. The rest of the batters were acting as sleeping pills and I fell asleep in the last four overs. When I woke up, I found that Hyderabad scored 115/8 in 20 overs,” he further added.

“We need to go back to the drawing board and re-assess things” – SRH captain

However, Kolkata Knight Riders won the game convincingly as well. After the loss, Kane Williamson said, “I think if we got closer to the 150-mark, might have been par. We did have our chances to squeeze the scoring but it was always going to be tough with such a low score. We haven’t been able to identify the right score all season and we need to go back to the drawing board and re-assess things. We could have built more partnerships.

“Unfortunately, we were 10-15 short of what would have been a competitive score. He (Malik) has been bowling really quick in the nets and it’s really nice for him to get an opportunity today. Obviously, we’re out of the competition, so it’s a chance for some other boys to also get on the park,” he added.
