England’s highest Test wicket-taker James Anderson has said that he felt extremely good, as he looked as good as ever and was Joe Root’s go-to man in the recently concluded England-India Test series. At 39, Anderson is still England’s most reliable bowler in Tests, going above and beyond to make his side get positive results.

The right-arm seamer ended the curtailed Test series with 15 scalps in eight innings at 24.66. Notably, he was the bowler who kept the Indian captain Virat Kohli silent for the majority of the series, dismissing him for a golden duck in the series.

I Am Confident I Can Go Again: James Anderson On Continuing To Play International Cricket

At 39, James Anderson is writing a new chapter in the history of longevity for pace bowlers, and even though he looked like he won’t play all the five Tests against India, the right-hander persevered and played in four matches. He was raring to feature in the Manchester Test despite a heavy workload at the Oval.

“I went into this series not expecting to play all five Tests. In recent series we have been able to rotate bowlers a bit more but circumstances have prevented that. It was not ideal bowling a lot of overs in the second innings at the Oval but with a few days of rest and recovery work I am confident I can go again. I have felt as good as ever in this series,” Anderson wrote in his column for The Telegraph.

“I have been in a good rhythm, my speeds have been decent, touching 85mph which is more than enough for someone with my skill set. I have really enjoyed new players coming into the team like Ollie Robinson and helping him blossom as a Test cricketer,” he added.

Anderson could have played at his home ground in Manchester, but Indian team players’ apprehensions over COVID-19 led to the fifth Test at the venue being canceled hours before the toss was supposed to happen.

The third-highest Test wicket-taker ever will next hope to make a trip to Australia for the Ashes, but it seems that tour is also in the doldrums as the visitors are reluctant to comply with quarantine rules. Moreover, if it does go ahead, many of England’s key players might opt out if their families are not allowed to travel with them.
