As always, we await the summer transfer window almost as eagerly as the season itself.

This summer there are some big names around Europe who are out-of-contract and looking for new teams.

It seems to be a growing theme and as big-name free transfers become more common, there will be more and more stellar names on the list each year.

For 2022, Planet Sport looks at the pick of the players around Europe out of contract and available on free transfers.

Gareth Bale

Finally, the Gareth Bale saga in Real Madrid will come to an end this summer as his contract finally expires and he'll reveal what his next move will be.

It's a great shame that his relationship with the Real Madrid fans is so sour as he's played a leading role in them winning four Champions Leagues during his time.

It included arguably the best Champions League final goal of all time against Liverpool in 2018, but he'll sadly not be given a nice send-off by the fans.

Paulo Dybala

The 28-year-old Argentinian has spent seven years with Juventus but is now moving on, and he's one of the most coveted free agents out there this summer.

He almost completed a move to Man Utd previously and has been on Tottenham's radar for some time, while Inter Milan have shown interest and Jose Mourinho would love him at Roma.

That's big competition for Spurs, who seem the favourites from the Premier League, and signing Dybala could help convince Antonio Conte to stay next season.

Luis Suarez

He's getting on a bit now at 35, but Luis Suarez scored 11 goals in La Liga despite not getting regular football with Atletico Madrid. The season before he hit 21 as he helped his side claim the league title. Suarez has offers from South America but has said he wants to stay in Europe, and one of the more interesting links is with his former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa.

Ousmane Dembele

Signed by Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund for £126million, the French winger is now set to depart Camp Nou for nothing this summer when his contract expires. Barca seem to have given up hope of him signing a new contract, and it looks like Chelsea are the favourites to snap him up on a free. Thomas Tuchel worked with Dembele at Dortmund and is a big fan of the 25-year-old, who looked much better this season when weighing in with 13 assists for Barca.

Luka Modric

What a spell Luka Modric has had with Real Madrid, winning three league titles and four Champions Leagues - he could make that five in Paris. The Croatian is 36 now though and although there is talk of a new short-term deal at Madrid he could well be on his way in the summer.

Isco

Another of the Real Madrid veterans association who are set to leave after a trophy-laden career at the Bernabeu. Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed the Spanish forward will depart this summer after playing in just 14 league games this season.

Aged just 30, he'll have plenty of admirers in the window.

Ivan Perisic

The 33-year-old Ivan Perisic may not have the legs he once had to get up and down that left flank, but he has the experience to compensate and would make for a nifty free transfer. Inevitably, Tottenham and Newcastle are both interested along with free transfer kings Juventus, so this may come down to where the Croatian wants to play his football next season.

Andrea Belotti

The 28-year-old Andrea Belotti was part of Italy's Euro 2020-winning squad and is set to leave Torino this summer after seven seasons.

Signing a new deal in Turin has not been totally ruled out, but seems unlikely as he's thought to want to get a move to one of the big Serie A guns. Premier League teams are interested though, with Tottenham, Arsenal and West Ham all weighing up the situation. He rejected a move to Newcastle in January. Belotti has scored 113 goals in 251 games for Torino and bagged 12 goals in his 42 caps for Italy.

Alessio Romagnoli

They may have won Serie A but Milan are still going to lose a couple of players this summer, with midfielder Franck Kessie heading to Barcelona and centre-back Alessio Romagnoli due to join him through the exit door.

Chelsea are on high alert here, with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen set to depart Stamford Bridge, and with Romagnoli also playing at left-back he offers some versatility. Lazio had looked in pole position but Romagnoli may now be leaving Serie A, with Bayern Munich and Barcelona also linked.

Luiz Felipe

Luiz Felipe played 31 league games for Lazio in 2021/22 but is leaving the Serie A side after six seasons in Rome.

The 25-year-old played 143 games for Lazio but is now looking likely to join Spanish side Real Betis on a free transfer. However, several other interested parties could yet swoop.

Angel Di Maria

Angel Di Maria has made some huge moves in his career but the 34-year-old could have one more left in him as he prepares to leave PSG this summer. The former Man Utd and Real Madrid man is firmly on Juventus' radar - a club who just love a big-name free transfer signing, but the player himself has denied the deal has been done. There's also been talk of him wanting to join Barcelona, which as an ex-Real Madrid man may not go down too well.

Corentin Tolisso

Twenty-seven-year-old Corentin Tolisso signed for Bayern Munich for £37million from Lyon five years ago, but could now be moving to Spain with both Sevilla and Real Madrid interested. Manchester United are also looking at a move to help out with their obvious problem area in midfield, but other Premier League teams will no doubt also be interested.

Jason Denayer

Former Manchester City defender Jason Denayer has played 139 times for Lyon over the last three years, but is now seeking pastures new.

The 26-year-old is one of the seemingly endless list of names linked with Newcastle, but as a free transfer the Belgian would make sense for the Magpies. Real Madrid are also keen.

Djibril Sidebe

The French right-back will leave Monaco this summer looking for a big move to enhance his World Cup chances.

A return to Everton, where he played previously on loan, has been mooted along with the inevitable Newcastle link, but Barcelona have also been reportedly interested.

Federico Bernardeschi

After five years with Juventus, Bernardeschi is leaving Turin following 183 appearances and three Serie A titles.

Inter Milan are the strongest link with the former Fiorentina man, who has suggested he will listen to offers away from Serie A as well.
