‘We have to fight!’ Lukasz Fabianski issues West Ham rallying cry after losing run halted in Leeds fightback

Lukasz Fabianski hailed West Ham’s togetherness following Wednesday night’s comeback at Leeds and insists his team-mates are ready to “fight for each other” in a bid to turn their ailing season around.

The Irons went to Elland Road on a dismal run of five straight defeats in the Premier League, with pressure mounting on manager David Moyes.

They appeared to be heading for a sixth when Wilfried Gnonto put the hosts ahead midway through the first half, but goals from Lucas Paqueta and Gianluca Scamacca turned the game on its head, before Rodrigo’s 70th-minute equaliser earned Leeds a 2-2 draw.

“You could clearly see tonight that as a group we are together,” Fabianski said. “We want to fight for each other. We want to help each other.

“It was difficult because we were 1-0 down and on the run we're on, it's very tricky but we responded in a positive way.

“We have to get results by fighting, digging deep and working really hard. The confidence will grow and then we'll start to show our ability as well.

“There's a massive character when it comes to our group, and we'll be able to turn things around and get good results."

Despite picking up their first point since beating Bournemouth back in October, the Hammers remain 17th and are now just a single goal outside the relegation zone.

Manager Moyes called the performance a “step in the right direction” but bemoaned a “missed opportunity” to take all three points after watching his side’s defensive frailties exposed again.

Fabianski added: "It was an emotional and demanding game, in terms of mental preparation because we were desperate to get a result.

“In the end we're disappointed because we were in the lead, but Leeds is always a difficult place to come and they're in a similar situation like us.

"We're on a very bad run so our confidence isn't at the highest. We were desperate to get something out of the game. Hopefully this point will help us build confidence going into the next game.”
