Figure Skating - Davis and White impress their home crowd

Meryl Davis admitted she and ice dance partner Charlie White loved every moment of skating in front of their home crowd as they ease to victory in the first Skate America event in Detroit.

The Michigan duo continued their remarkable form ahead of Sochi 2014 as they topped the pile on 188.23 points for their short and free dances combined. That was comfortably ahead of Italians Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte in second place and Davis, who along with White added the 2013 world ice dance title to their 2011 crown in Canada back in March, admitted it was a dream come true. "It's a little bit daunting,” said Davis, who took silver at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010 with White. “It’s always nerve-racking competing in front of the people you love most.” Elsewhere Japan's Tatsuki Machida cruised to the men's title, beating second-place American Adam Rippon by a whopping 24 points. Rippon's compatriot and teammate Max Aaron, the reigning US Champion, had to settle for third. © Sportsbeat 2013
