Bound for next month's Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, the Japanese skater was hesitant over her appearance but she dominated throughout to win gold. Murakami scored 64.73 to lead after the ladies' short program and then posted 132.18 in the free skate for the win ahead of teammate Satoko Miyahara. That gave her a winning total of 196.91 with Miyahara second with 186.53, China's Li Zijun third and another Japanese skater in Haruka Imai fourth. Miyahara jumped up from fourth after the short program while Murakami upgrades the Four Continents bronze she won in Osaka in 2013 as part of a Japanese clean sweep.
