Fabrizio Romano has given an update on West Ham United’s pursuit of Filip Kostic, which is gathering pace.

Kostic currently plays for Eintracht Frankfurt. He made 42 appearances for the German club last season at either left wing-back or left wing. The wide man had a great campaign, registering seven goals and 15 assists as Frankfurt won the Europa League – their second ever major European trophy.

Kostic is in the final 12 months of his Frankfurt contract and this has led to interest from teams across Europe. One of them is David Moyes’ West Ham.

The Irons want to bolster their options on the left flank and have resultantly set their sights on Kostic.

On Friday, West Ham acted on their interest by launching a bid for the 29-year-old, as per Sky Sports.

They are also in discussions with Sassuolo for Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca. This is because the two players share the same representative.

Romano states West Ham’s bid for Scamacca has been successful. It is worth an initial £30.6million, plus £5.1m in add-ons.

The value of the Kostic offer is still under wraps. Romano has still provided an update on those negotiations, though.

West Ham ‘progressing’ in Filip Kostic chase

The transfer guru claims talks between West Ham and Frankfurt are ‘progressing well’. This suggests an agreement could soon be in place for the Serbia international to move to the London Stadium.

The Hammers have also begun discussions over a second agreement – Kostic’s personal terms. They want to sort these out as soon as possible to help the deal reach completion.

According to Romano, Scamacca’s prospective move will go through first, then Kostic should join afterwards. A double swoop would hugely improve Moyes’ options on the left wing and up front.

Due to Kostic’s Frankfurt contract running down, West Ham should be able to pick him up for a reduced fee. transfermarkt value him at £21.6m, although it’s unclear whether the club’s bid is worth more or less than this.

Kostic is versatile and should be able to fit into whichever formation Moyes decides to use. If the manager opts for a 4-2-3-1, then Kostic can play as a wide attacker.

If Moyes wants to change things up and utilise wing-backs instead, then Kostic will provide competition for Aaron Cresswell.

Scamacca, meanwhile, will finally solve West Ham’s striker shortage. It has taken them well over a year, but they finally seem to have replaced Sebastien Haller and brought in someone to help Michail Antonio.

Elsewhere, Declan Rice has spoken about the reports linking him with a move to Manchester United or Chelsea.
