Steven Finn had a less hectic second day as he seeks to prove his match fitness with the England Performance Programme - while fellow Test aspirant Joe Root pressed his claims with a century.
Fast bowler Finn took four wickets on Tuesday as the EPP bowled the DY Patil Academy out for 204 in Mumbai.
However, he was a spectator while Root compiled 166 at the top of the order in a stumps total of 484 for six.
England can therefore be reassured that, as well as Finn's heartening recovery from his thigh strain in the week before the third Test against India in Kolkata, back-up opener Root is in form should he be needed to make his debut any time soon.
The young Yorkshireman hit 22 fours and a six in a total which also featured half-centuries from James Taylor (72) and then Ben Foakes (90 not out).
