Roberto Firmino has broken his silence on his situation at Liverpool with his current contract due to expire at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

Liverpool have already lost one key forward this summer as Sadio Mane has made the move to Bayern Munich. The German outfit paid around £34m to sign him.

The Reds are still looking pretty good though, with them being boosted by the summer arrival of Darwin Nunez.

They got their 2022/23 season underway at The King Power Stadium on Saturday as they battled Man City for the *celebrated* Community Shield.

Nunez was brought on for Firmino with half an hour to go and he made an impact in his full debut for Liverpool.

The Uraguay international finished off a smart move to round off Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over their rivals.

Firmino may fall down the pecking order this term if Nunez is able to hit the ground running in the Premier League.

The experienced attacker’s contract at Liverpool is due to expire in 2023. Earlier this week, Jurgen Klopp insisted that he is a “crucial” component of the team:

“Bobby is crucial for us,” the Liverpool boss said on Thursday before the Community Shield. “Bobby is [the] heart and soul of this team.

“The way we played in the last few years was only possible because of Bobby. That’s why I’m really happy he could train the majority of the time here in the pre-season so far and everything looks really good.

“I am absolutely fine and, for me, there’s no doubt about his quality. All the rest, we will see how this year goes, but yes, he is essential for us.”

In recent weeks, Serie A outfit Juventus have emerged as contenders for his signature.

They are understood to have bid £19m for the forward ahead of his contract expiry.

Speaking after winning the Community Shield, Firmino suggested that it is priority to remain at Liverpool:

“I love this team, this city and the fans,” Firmino said (via The Mirror).

“I’m here. I want to stay, of course.”

The Reds paid around £29m to sign him from German side Hoffenheim back in 2015. He has netted 98 goals in 328 appearances for the Premier League outfit.

The Brazil international has helped the English club win the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup in recent seasons.
