Japan have named Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu in their 26-man squad for the 2022 World Cup.

The 23-year-old is joined by Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma and Huddersfield defender Yuta Nakayama in representing the Samurai Blue in Qatar this winter.

Celtic duo Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate were left out but Bhoys winger Daizen Maeda is included.

Hajime Moriyasu’s Japan face Germany, Costa Rica and Spain in Group E.

Nations have until November 10 to reveal their 26-man squads having chosen a preliminary list of 55 players ahead of the World Cup.

Japan are the first team to unveil their final squad.

Arsenal’s Portuguese duo Cedric Soares and Fabio Vieira are in the reckoning for their country and Albert Sambi Lokonga was recently named in Belgium’s preliminary squad.

Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli will discover their fate when Brazil’s final squad is released on November 7, with the United States confirming Matt Turner’s possible call-up two days later.
