First Man Utd signing nears for Ten Hag as Euro giants ‘cool contact’ over Serie A winner due to key problem
Manchester United have been given a major boost in their chase to sign a top Napoli player after German giants Bayern Munich decided against capturing him, according to one journalist.
Napoli were crowned Serie A champions on Thursday following a 1-1 away draw with Udinese. It is an historic trophy for the club as they have not won the Scudetto since 1989-90, when the legendary Diego Maradona was playing in Naples.
Luciano Spalletti has done a fantastic job. He has been helped by Napoli possessing three top-class players in their first team.
Centre-back Kim Min-jae has been brilliant this campaign, playing in all but one of Napoli’s Serie A games and helping them to keep 15 clean sheets.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has excelled too. The winger has established himself as one of the best attackers in Europe, tearing defenders apart with his incredible pace and dribbling. He has registered 12 goals and 12 assists in 29 league appearances.
Kvaratskhelia has formed a deadly partnership with striker Victor Osimhen. The 24-year-old is Serie A’s top scorer, having netted 22 goals in 27 matches. He is a nightmare for defenders as he is an expert at finding space in the box and can also finish with his right foot, left foot or head.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to keep as much of the team together as possible so they can win more trophies and go far in the Champions League next term. But he will be forced into selling Osimhen if a major bids arrives for the goalscorer this summer.
The Nigerian has been linked with Man Utd, Chelsea, Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain. On May 1, Italian source Calciomercato revealed he would choose between Bayern and PSG, handing Man Utd and Chelsea a big setback.
Man Utd delight as Bayern drop out of striker pursuit
But there has now been a big twist, as per Sky Sport Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg. Writing on Twitter, he reveals Bayern have ‘cooled’ their contact with Napoli over Osimhen.
A transfer ‘is not affordable’ for the Bundesliga side due to Napoli’s asking price. Bayern do not want to pay more than €100million (£88m) for their next striker, whereas Napoli are demanding €150m (£132m) for Osimhen.
After holding preliminary talks with Napoli, Bayern have decided not to take their interest in the star to the next stage.
In a follow-up tweet, Plettenberg adds PSG are ‘not the hottest option’ for Osimhen as things stand. Instead, it is far more likely he will join Man Utd or Chelsea.
And when it comes down to choosing between the two Premier League giants, it is very likely Erik ten Hag’s side will come out on top.
While Chelsea are languishing in mid-table and look like a club in crisis, Man Utd remain on course to qualify for next season’s Champions League. They also won the Carabao Cup earlier this year and are through to the FA Cup final.
Osimhen wants to continue competing in the Champions League – and for domestic honours – when departing Napoli, and therefore Man Utd looks like his ideal next club.
Of course, Osimhen is not the only striker Man Utd are interested in as Ten Hag aims to bolster his attack. They are also pursuing Tottenham’s Harry Kane and hope to partner him with England team-mate Marcus Rashford.
It seems the race to become Man Utd’s next centre-forward has come down to a straight fight between Osimhen and Kane. The latter heading to Old Trafford depends entirely on Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and whether he is willing to negotiate with Man Utd.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag has given his reaction after Man Utd were beaten 1-0 by Brighton on Thursday night.
