Manchester United have officially completed the signing of Ajax winger Antony on transfer deadline day.

The Brazilian moves to Old Trafford in a huge deal thought to be worth an initial £84million plus add-ons, a record fee for an Eredivisie player.

Antony becomes United’s second most expensive signing of all time, behind only the now departed Paul Pogba, who returned to the club in a mammoth £89m transfer in the summer of 2016.

The 22-year-old, who boasts nine senior international caps for Brazil, has penned a five-year contract until 2027 that includes the option for an additional 12 months beyond that.

Antony reunites with former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag and ex-team-mate Lisandro Martinez in Manchester, though Thursday night’s Premier League trip to Leicester will come too soon for his debut.

He could instead make his United bow in a high-profile contest against high-flying Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday.

“This is an incredible moment in my career to be joining one of the most iconic clubs in the world,” Antony told United’s official website. “I’m thankful to everyone who has believed in me, especially my family, and all my coaches and team-mates, because I could not have got here without them.

“Playing under Erik ten Hag at Ajax was perfect for me and my development. His style of football and coaching brings out the best in me, and I am excited by what he has told me about his plans and ambitions in Manchester.

“My time at Ajax was fantastic and I will always be grateful for the trust they put in me, but now I am ready for the next challenge, and I can’t wait to join my new team-mates and play my part in bringing success to Manchester United.”
